The Status of asymptotically safe Quantum Gravity(PRETALK for students at 15:30 h)
This talk will start with a short reminder of the Asymptotic Safety (AS) scenario, and how this idea could lead to a model of quantum spacetime.
In the main part of this talk I will discuss two aspects of the AS scenario.
First I will focus on pure QG, demonstrating that the inclusion of the famous Goroff-Sagnotti counter term of perturbative QG seems to pose no problem for the AS conjecture.
Furthermore, I will give a glimpse at the bi-metric nature of the effective average action, by showing some recent results on background correlation functions.
In the second part, I will mostly be concerned with the fate of chiral symmetry in AS.
This symmetry is necessary for the existence of light standard model like fermions.
As it turns out, the existence of a viable asymptotically safe renormalization group fixed point could restrict the number of fermionic degrees of freedom.
